Common questions about flightinsight

Getting started

What is flightinsight?

A flight-search tool that lays out itineraries on a time-axis chart instead of a vertical list. Each option is shown as horizontal bars — the bars are flight segments, the gaps are layovers — so you can compare departure times, durations, and connections at a glance.

Is it free to use?

Yes. flightinsight is free and has no ads. If you find it useful you can support development via the “Buy me a coffee” button in the upper-right corner — entirely optional.

Do I need an account?

No. There are no logins, no profiles, and no account creation. Your search preferences are stored only in your browser’s local storage.

Reading the chart

What do the bars on the chart show?

Each row is one flight option. The solid colored segments are flight legs; the gaps between them are layovers. The horizontal position of a bar tells you when the flight departs and arrives on the time axis above.

What timezone is the chart in?

The entire chart is plotted in the local timezone of your initial departure airport. All departure and arrival times you see are in that one reference frame, so you can compare options without doing timezone math in your head.

What does the comfort score mean?

An estimate from 0 to 100 of in-flight comfort, based on aircraft type, seat-density data, and route characteristics. It’s grouped into tiers:

  • Comfiest — 85 and above
  • Comfy — 70–84
  • Adequate — 50–69
  • Uncomfy — 30–49
  • Painful — below 30

Use the “Min comfort” filter to hide options below your threshold.

Filters and search

Can I search multiple origins or destinations at once?

Yes. Add additional airport codes in the From or To fields using the + button, and each origin–destination pair will be searched in parallel. Useful when you’re flexible about which airport you depart from or arrive at.

What does "Non-stop only" filter?

It hides any itinerary that includes a connection — only direct flights are shown.

What do the Earliest / Latest departure fields do?

They restrict the outbound flight to depart within that local-time window at the origin airport. Useful for “I can leave anytime between 9 AM and 1 PM” type searches.

How does the Airlines filter work?

Enter comma-separated IATA airline codes (e.g. BA,AA,UA) to limit results to those carriers. The Alliance dropdown is a quicker way to filter by Star Alliance, oneworld, or SkyTeam membership.

Pricing, awards & booking

Where does the flight data come from?

Flight schedules, availability, and pricing are sourced from Duffel, which aggregates content from many airlines’ direct content APIs. Award-redemption data comes from Seats.aero.

Can I book flights through flightinsight?

No. flightinsight is a comparison tool only. When you find an option you like, click through to the airline’s website to book directly. We provide a deep-link to the relevant airline where possible.

What does the "Check award value" button do?

It looks up whether the same flight is available as a frequent-flyer award redemption on a relevant program and calculates the cents-per-point (CPP) value — roughly, how many cents of cash value each mile or point would save you on that specific ticket. Higher CPP generally means a better redemption.

Why is the price different when I click through to the airline?

Prices change in real time. Airlines may also bundle taxes, ancillary fees, seat selection, or baggage differently between the search response and the checkout page. Always confirm the final price on the airline’s site before booking.

Privacy & saved preferences

Does flightinsight save my data on a server?

No. Your search-form preferences (default airports, dates, cabin, comfort tier, etc.) are stored only in your browser’s localStorage. Nothing personal is sent to or stored on our servers. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

How do I clear my saved preferences?

Open your browser’s developer tools → Application or Storage tab → localStorage for this site, and delete the flightinsight.searchForm.v2 entry. Or simply clear site data for flightinsight.info in your browser settings.
